United States Air Force air traffic controller, 1970-78

His first permanent duty station was Scott AFB, Ill., where he worked for 4 1/2 years in the control tower. 

In 1975 he received orders for Nakom Phanom Royal Thai Air Base Thailand, assigned to the control tower. He was stationed there when the Vietnam War ended. 

Returning to the states in the spring of 1975, he finished his eight years of duty assigned to the control tower at Shaw AFB, S.C. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, E-5, and attended Management School at Richards-Gebaur AFB, Mo., in 1976. Returning to Shaw AFB he was assigned as crew chief in the control tower.

He was honorably discharged in February 1978.

Married Martha L. Reaves, Aug. 26, 2000, and moved to Bella Vista in July 2007.

Joined the American Legion in 2008.
